Towering
stacs teeming with birdlife and a grassy home island, populated
by hardy fishermen, shepherds and fowlers. This was the remote Atlantic
archipelago of St. Kilda a century ago, just like the Westmann Islands
off the south shores of Iceland.
The
documentary Ginklofinn looks at how the inhabitants
lived in their harsh environment and how both both the Icelandic
and Scottish island communities were ravaged by a mystery illness
that pushed infant mortality rates up to 80% at the beginning of
the 20th century.
Ginklofinn
will be shot on location at St. Kilda in the Hebrides and at the
Westmann Islands off Iceland's south coast in August 2006. Fowling
and fishing traditions and the story of these communities' will
to survive is the subject of this film.
Narration
will be by Magnús Magnússon and the documentary will
be produced by KvikFilm.
